Fixer Upper Stars Chip And Joanna Gaines Announce Theyre Opening A Hotel

Fixer Upper stars Chip and Joanna Gaines may no longer be on HGTV, but they are busier than ever. The parents-of-five already have a home improvement empire with their Magnolia brand, their Silos shopping destination, a bakery, and a restaurant – plus they are launching their own network. And now, the couple has announced that they are opening a hotel.

Chip and Joanna made the announcement on their Magnolia blog with a silly video featuring Chip in a bellman’s costume while standing in the hotel ballroom, and then they shared a series of “before” shots of the hotel before it undergoes a massive renovation.

The couple purchased the 53,000 square-foot Grand Karem Shrine building in Waco, Texas, last year, which is conveniently located near the Magnolia Market. Built in 1928, the former county office building will become a hotel that will feature a grand ballroom, a ground-floor restaurant, and a rooftop terrace and café once the renovations are complete. Joanna will also be designing three-stories worth of rooms in the building.

The press release states that the hotel’s design will “evoke Joanna’s affinity for timeless, classic details,” but at the same time she will preserve the building’s rich history and highlight it’s distinctive architectural features.

“Home is a feeling, created by and for the people you love and share your life with; it’s a state of being known and loved just as you are,” Chip and Joanna said in a press release. “That is our dream for this hotel.”

They went on to say that the hotel will serve as an extension of the way they feel about their own home and what it represents to them. Chip and Joanna believe that every guest who stays in the hotel will experience “that same sense of belonging and community.”

The couple says that home is everything to them and their family, and that “value of home” philosophy drives them in everything they do. They added that people might have the impression that they are always tackling something new, and sometimes they feel like they might be overreaching. But, they started out as small business owners who are drawn to challenging projects, and when the hotel opportunity came along, they couldn’t help but “go all-in.”

Chip and Joanna Gaines teamed up with private real estate company Adventurous Journeys Capital Partners to purchase the not-yet-named the hotel, and they plan to open in 2021.
