Kirstin was born in Fort Worth, Texas on 16 May 1992. She was born to Angelica Maldonado (Mother) and Michael Cisneros (father). At the age of 5, Kirstin made it known that she wished to be a singer so when she got to 8 years, she sang at her mother’s wedding. Her desire convinced the mother to enrol her in a voice lesson class.
Maldonado attended both Holy Rosary Catholic School and Martin High School. At Martin High School, Kirstin met Scott Hoying and with Grassi, they formed the Pentatonix. This was an acapella group and their show thrilled everyone. After Martin High school in 2010, Kirstin attended the University of Oklahoma where she studied musical theatre on a full-ride scholarship as a National Hispanic Scholar.
In 2011, Kirstin, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola formed the group Pentatonix and contested NBC’s acapella competition called “The Sing-Off”. The performance landed them the ultimate trophy of the third season of “The Sing-Off” competition. They also won their first Grammy for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for their Daft Punk medley on 8 February 2015. The following year on February 15 2016, the group won their second Grammy in the same category but this time with their song “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy”.
