He began his television career playing the role of "Hubcap", who was a friend of Josh Hall (Laurence Fishburne) on the ABC daytime soap opera One Life to Live. He also had a recurring role on the 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls as Dorothy's musician son, Michael Zbornak.
Jacoby was born in Skokie, Illinois, but moved to Flushing, New York, when he was ten years old. At the age of twelve, he was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of Ally in the Broadway musical Golden Rainbow, which starred Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gormé. Jacoby was nominated in the category Best Featured Actor in a Musical at the 22nd Tony Awards, held on April 21, 1968.
